Haunted Attractions In & Around Nashville
The Halloween season in Nashville comes marked by some really top-class haunts. Here’s a look at just a few of them that you’ll find convenient to your Marriott Autograph Collection accommodations here at The Union Station Nashville Yards!
Beast House (3976 Dickerson Pike, Nashville, TN)
Set within a mansion built in the late 19th century and boasting a very grim history indeed (involving murders, mysterious fires, and paranormal frights), Beast House ranks among the best-known haunted attractions in Nashville. It’s freaky enough that there’s a money-back guarantee for visitors who can actually make it through the entire setup. How brave are you?
Nashville Nightmare (1016 Madison Square, Madison, TN)
Ranked by USA Today among the “Top 5 Most Terrifying Haunted Houses in the USA,” Nashville Nightmare involves multiple scare-filled installations, including Midnight Mortuary: The Summoning, Vector Research: Alien Autopsy, Horror High: School for Ghouls, and Castle Infernus. You can enjoy add-on experiences such as Mini Escape Games here.
Slaughter House Nashville (3445 Lebanon Pike, Hermitage, TN)
Established in 1986, Slaughter House—set within the old theaters of the Courtyard Cinema—markets itself as the longest-running haunt in Nashville.
Dead Land (7040 Murfreesboro Rd, Lebanon, TN)
Multiple outdoor haunted attractions—the CarnEvil, The Portal: Scary Tales, and The Lodge: Classic Night of Terror—distinguish Dead Land, which also includes concessions, a bonfire, and other Halloween-y draws.
Creepy Hollow Woods (2133 Joe Brown Rd, Spring Hill, TN)
Both indoor and outdoor haunts—plenty creepy, but not excessively gory—spook visitors at Creepy Hollow Woods, which encompasses Haunted Woods, Haunted Hall, and Zombie Maze. This popular attraction, damaged by a tornado this year, will be reopening for Halloween 2025, so mark your calendars!
Millers Thrillers (1431 Carters Creek Pike, Columbia, TN)
Face off with the undead at Millers Thrillers’ Zombie Hayride Reloaded and explore a ghost-ridden mining landscape in Hillbilly Hollar. While you wait in line, you’ll get to enjoy the Entertainment Zone’s stage performances (including a zombie drumline).
Take a Ghost Tour on Your Halloween Getaway to Nashville
Maybe delving into local supernatural history is more your style, as opposed to jumping out of your socks in the shadowy corridors of a haunted attraction. Well, you’re in luck: Nashville has plenty of guided ghost tours that’ll surely spice up your Halloween stay at The Union Station. (And the stories may see you jumping out of your socks regardless.)
Ghost City Tours, for example, offers several haunted explorations in Music City, including of the 1859-built Two Rivers Mansion and the Nashville City Cemetery. In fact, for reasons we’ll get into later in the article, our famed hotel is one of the stops on the company’s The Ghosts of Nashville Tour, along with locations such as Printer’s Alley and the State Capitol.
Then there’s Amerighost’s Nashville Ghost Tours, offering such itineraries as the Haunted Downtown Nashville Tour and a truly one-of-a-kind, Halloween-appropriate ride around the city on one of the Nashville Hearse Tours.
Andrew Jackson’s Hermitage, one of the Nashville area’s top-draw historical landmarks, also offers its own Ghost Tours of the property, spotlighting various paranormal associations, Andrew Jackson’s encounter with the Bell Witch, and other spine-tingling tales. (By the way, we recently profiled The Hermitage here at The Union Station Nashville Yards blog in an overview of some of Greater Nashville’s premier historical attractions: Check it out!)
The Haunted Side of The Union Station Nashville Yards
Built at the turn of the last century as a train terminal for the Louisville & Nashville Railroad, The Union Station Nashville Yards is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and one of the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s designated Historic Hotels of America. An architectural showstopper, our luxury boutique hotel also has its very own ghostly dimension: one that’s seen it named (in USA Today’s 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards) the best haunted hotel in the country.
Guests who thrill at the potential for a paranormal experience gravitate toward The Union Station’s Room 711, distinguished by no shortage of unexplained phenomena such as footsteps, flickering lights, and abrupt chill-downs. This activity is traditionally attributed to the hotel’s resident spirit: that of Abigail, a young woman who threw herself in front of a train here while grieving the World War II death of her soldier sweetheart.
It’s said Room 711 gives Abigail’s ghost a good vantage overlooking the railroad tracks, where she’d kept vigil for the return of her love before hearing of his tragic fate. (Some have claimed to see the apparition of a soldier in uniform on the tracks, as well.)
Abigail is not a threatening wraith, mind you, and we’re rather fond of her restricted presence in the hotel.
